National Informatics Centre (NIC) of the Department of Information Technology is providing network backbone and e-Governance support to Central Government, State Governments, UT Administrations, Districts and other Government bodies. It offers a wide range of ICT services including Nationwide Communication Network for decentralised planning, improvement in Government services and wider transparency of national and local Governments. NIC assists in implementing Information Technology Projects, in close collaboration with Central and State Governments, in the areas of (a) Centrally sponsored schemes and Central sector schemes, (b) State sector and State sponsored projects, and (c) District Administration sponsored projects. NIC endeavours to ensure that the latest technology in all areas of IT is available to its users.

NIC District Centre, Dharwad came into existence in the year 1988 with main objective to to assist different government departments in computerisation & office automation for better and effective administration, management and planning  and to create computer awareness amongst the people. Since its inception, NIC Dharwad has been striving hard to put Management Information Systems in place and extend the benefits of ICT to the common man. With a motto to ‘reach the unreached’, NIC Dharwad has rolled out a number of e-Governance applications to benefit the rural masses and people living in the remote areas of the district. It provides e-mail services, Internet access, file transfer facility, office automation, development of computer-based Management Information System (MIS), etc.

Training is an essential component in bringing about IT culture in the District. NIC, Dharwad conducts intensive Computer Awareness training whenever requested by the departments for the government employees. Training is imparted mainly on office automation, Internet.
